Prof. Dr. Stefaan J. Bergé studied Dentistry and Medicine in Louvain, Belgium. He trained as a resident at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) of the Academic Hospital in Saarbrücken, Germany. From 1998 until 2005 he worked at the department of OMFS at the University in Bonn, Germany as a full staff member. His qualification for “Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery” followed in 2002. From 2003 he did clinical and animal experimental studies on the prenatal diagnosis and fetal surgery of orofacial clefts, which resulted in a PhD.
Since 2005, he is Full University Professor and Head of the department of OMFS of the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He is founding member of the 3D-Facial Imaging Group Nijmegen and President of the Nijmegen Cleft and Craniofacial Center. Since 2006, more than 4 Million Euro could be raised within the 3D-LAB for research-projects and hardware investment. Prof. Bergé has published over 300 peer reviewed publications, has done several book publications and has given hundreds of international lectures all over the world. He has won several international awards and is promoter of over 25 doctoral PhD-theses. In 2016 he was awarded as the best Teaching Professor of the Netherlands. Since 2018, he is the President of the Innovation Board of the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Prof. Bergé is President-elect of the EACMFS and will host the European Conference in Amsterdam in 2028.
